Three hours on the shoreline: a short safety briefing, then small groups work along the beach and we finish by sorting what we collected.

People picking up litter along a wide sandy beach under an overcast sky

About this event

We start with a ten-minute briefing on safety and on what not to touch, then split into small groups, each with a stretch of beach. Halfway through we stop for water and a quick check-in.

The last half hour is for sorting: separating recyclables, noting anything unusual and packing the bags for collection. Everyone is welcome – no experience needed.

Objectives

  • Clear litter from the full length of the beach
  • Separate recyclable material for collection
  • Record what we find so the next cleanup is better planned

What to bring

  • Water bottle
  • Sun hat or rain jacket, depending on the forecast
  • Closed shoes you don't mind getting dirty
  • Work gloves if you have them (we bring spares)

Practical information

Minimum age 12; under-16s come with an adult. Expect around three hours on sand with short breaks.

Accessibility

Sandy, uneven ground with no shade. There is a paved promenade alongside for anyone who prefers to help with sorting.
